why we started dog days

At Dog Days Pet Hotel, we believe every dog deserves exceptional care. We were founded on a simple belief: boarding should feel safe, calm, and comforting—not loud, overstimulating, or overcrowded.

After seeing how overwhelming traditional boarding environments can be, we set out to create something different: a peaceful space where routine, one-on-one attention, and emotional well-being come first. A place where dogs can truly relax while their families are away.

Every detail of Dog Days Pet Hotel has been thoughtfully designed—from our intentionally small-scale approach to the way we care for each guest. Our goal is simple: to provide the kind of personalized, trustworthy care we'd want for our own dogs, giving you complete peace of mind while you're apart.

Meet the Founder

Hi, I’m Michelle!

the beginning

My love for animals started at a young age and has been a constant throughout my life. Growing up, our family always had pets—from dogs and cats to the occasional lizard—and those experiences helped shape my passion for animal care.

the journey

After moving from Buffalo, New York to North Carolina, in 2011, I spent several years working as a full-time art teacher while caring for the pets of friends, family, and neighbors. What began as a way to help others quickly became something I truly loved. Today, providing exceptional care for pets is more than a job—it’s my passion.

At Dog Days Pet Hotel, I treat every guest as if they were part of my own family. My husband and I share our home with our adopted fur babies , Scout, London, and Casper, who remind us every day just how special the bond between people and pets can be.

The Homestead

When we’re not caring for dogs, you’ll often find us tending to our homestead, which is home to chickens, goats, rabbits, and pigs. Living alongside so many animals has only strengthened my belief that every pet deserves compassionate, attentive, and loving care.

Meet our “TEAM”

Outside of caring for our Dog Days guests, you’ll also find us tending to our own family of animals.

Our official welcoming committee—Jack, Lolly, Cash, and Simon! These friendly goats love greeting visitors and are always happy to say hello.
Apollo and Rhea are our rescued rabbits. These gentle companions enjoy lounging in the shade and charming everyone who stops by.
Brother and sister duo Milo and Wren are full of personality. Curious, playful, and always entertaining, they’re a favorite among guests.
Our rescued pups, Casper and Scout, help remind every boarding guest that this is a place built on love, patience, and second chances.
Meet London, our resident feline. Whether he’s supervising the day’s activities or finding the perfect sunny spot for a nap, London is an important part of the Dog Days family.
Our flock of happy hens is a cherished part of the family. They aren’t raised for food—they’re beloved pets who spend their days scratching, exploring, dust bathing, and enjoying life on the farm. Their quirky personalities and curious nature bring a little extra charm to Dog Days, and guests love watching them and do what chickens do best.
